This position is responsible for crafting and executing strategic communication and development initiatives, including grant writing, donor engagement, and community outreach, ensuring consistent messaging and brand alignment. The Development Director also supports organizational growth through fundraising, planned giving, and resource development.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Grant Management & Proposal Writing: Lead the end-to-end grant lifecycle, including researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals to secure funding from foundations, corporations, and other philanthropic sources.
  • Identify, define and acquire additional funding resources from foundations, fundraising, grants, etc. available to the Agency.
  • Prospect Research: Conduct thorough research on potential corporate and foundation donors to identify grant opportunities aligned with the agency's mission and goals.
  • Design and implement strategies to develop a comprehensive development plan and appropriate marketing strategies for the Agency and the Foundation.
  • Collaborative Reporting: Work cross-functionally with departments to collect data and insights necessary for creating detailed and impactful reports for grant funders, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Work collaboratively with staff members and the community to identify avenues of fundraising support for programs/projects.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Build and nurture positive relationships with internal teams, donors, foundations, and community partners to enhance collaboration and funding potential.
  • Oversee all fundraising activities of the Agency. Maintain ongoing contact with the Agency's staff regarding development programs and plans.
  • Grant Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all grant reporting requirements, deadlines, and regulations, providing accurate and timely submissions to donors.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Communications, develop promotional materials for fundraising use.
  • Donor Stewardship: Collaborate with the Director of Communications to provide thoughtful follow-up, including crafting stewardship reports and keeping donors informed on program outcomes and initiatives.
  • Donor Engagement: Assist in scheduling meetings and organizing site visits for key donors, such as foundation officers and trustees, to foster deeper connections and showcase agency impact.
  • Data Management & Record Keeping: Maintain up-to-date, organized records in both electronic databases and physical files, tracking grant applications, deadlines, and reporting obligations.
  • Development Metrics: Track and analyze key statistics related to fundraising efforts, contributing insights and written materials that enhance donor engagement and stewardship.
  • Content Development: Collaborate with the Development team to contribute to various written materials, including board reports, social media updates, newsletters, and other communication platforms.
  • Event & Fundraising Support: Participate in special projects, fundraising campaigns, and organizational events as needed, ensuring seamless execution of development initiatives.
  • Social Media & Digital Presence: Assist with managing and updating the agency's social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, X/Twitter, YouTube) to promote the brand, increase visibility, and engage with the community.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other relevant duties as assigned to support the agency's mission and objectives.Essential Qualifications
    • Education & Experience:
      • Bachelor's degree with a track record of success in public relations, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field.
      • Minimum 2 years of experience in grant writing and nonprofit fundraising is strongly preferred.
      • Proven success in writing persuasive grant proposals and experience with donor communications.
      • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
      • Strong research skills to identify funding opportunities and alignment with potential grantors.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM software, and social media management tools.
      • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) is a plus.
      • Highly organized, with strong project management and multitasking abilities.
      • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both in writing and verbally.
      • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-departmentally and with diverse community stakeholders.
      • Preferred Attributes:
      • Experience in planned giving or major gift fundraising.
      • Ability to leverage data and analytics to inform donor communications and strategy.Physical, Mental and/or Visual Demands
        • Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time throughout the day.
        • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
        • Must be able to bend and stoop.
        • Must be able to walk extended periods throughout the day monitoring.

        • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
