Medicine Circle, Durham, NC -Job Summary The Medical Oncology
Advanced Practice Provider for our Outpatient Infusion Center and
Acute Care Clinic provides direct patient care in collaboration
with a multi-disciplinary team, including attending physicians and
other medical professionals by collecting and documenting data,
obtaining/ordering diagnostic and therapeutic procedures,
laboratory studies and professional consultations. The age-specific
scope of practice is for patients 18 years and older. -Job Duties
and Responsibilities -
- Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout
the continuum of cancer diagnosis. -
- Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform
through physical examinations.
- Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine
medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment
toxicities.
- Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking
skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing
appropriate medications.
- Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health
records
- Oversight of emergency management of patients
- Hypersensitivity protocol
- Code Blue/ 115 first response
- Assessment of acutely ill patients awaiting admission to the
hospital
- Additional orders for symptom management as needed
- Collaboration with inpatient medical team for handoff
- Prescription of medications for symptom management
- Additional orders as needed
- Address lab values if outside of regimen parameters to
determine if patient can receive treatment
- Order supplements as needed based on lab values
- Potential procedures
- Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient
care.
- Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships
with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues,
and team members.
- Participate in education of patients, family members, new
staff, students and other learners.
- See scheduled and unscheduled patients.
- Attend program required meetings.
- Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via
approved CME.
- Maintain Institutional requirements for compliance
- Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by
North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies. -Job

Unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with

preferred, ideally Oncology/Hematologic Malignancy experience, but
