Monday-Friday (evenings and weekends requirements on a rotational basis)

POSITION PURPOSE:

Performs master craftsman and lead work associated with HVAC systems. Performs master craftsman level work associated with refrigeration equipment including coolers, freezers, and related systems.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

• Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word; Google Apps;
• Considerable knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, and equipment and fixtures;
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel;
• Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
• Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
• Ability to work independently and part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;
• Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems;
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.
  
  EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Five years of experience directly related to HVAC and refrigeration systems installation and repair.
    
    CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
    • Type I, II, and III chlorofluorocarbon CFC Certification;
    • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements;
    • Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards.
      
      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Hold a valid HVAC and Refrigeration License determined by the North Carolina Board of HVAC Examiners;
      • Associates Degree or technical school training in HVAC Systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
        
        
      • Performs experienced or master craftsman level work associated with HVAC systems, materials, equipment and fixtures.
      • Responds to assigned work orders relating to HVAC; troubleshoots appropriate corrective measures and performs work to provide a solution.
      • Replaces faulty or defective HVAC equipment and systems.
      • Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports, as needed.
      • Adheres to laws, regulations and requirements set forth in the WCPSS Safety procedures/policies.
      • Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a safe work environment.
      • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
        
        WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
        
        This job operates in in an indoor and outdoor environment . This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc . The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to seventy-five pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment. Frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather conditions.
